There are several options open to AlleghenyCONNECT for use of a Moodle server:
The server itself could be purchased and hosted at either the AIU network center or at Expedient, the network center for all of AlleghenyCONNECT
Support for Moodle (users and server) could be acquired in several ways:
Moodlerooms offers support packages ranging from $1 to $5 per user. There are other vendors supplying this type of service
Support by another Intermediate Unit is a possibility - a working committee is currently investigating the joining of several moodle installations to create a statewide network of mutual support for content and technical aspects.
Kevin Conner is working on a statewide project that includes use of Moodle to deliver professional development. The PAIMS (Pennsylvania Instructional Media Services) Directors at each IU are working jointly on a multi-faceted proposal for funding through the Act 183 e-Fund. More details to follow - the proposal is due to the PDE in October.
